idk about the spring, you might not want to buy one unless you notice a problem with your m14's power, i hear the first thing you want to do is put a tightbore in there but i'm not positive.

that's a whole gearbox, something that he won't need right away, especially when if he's looking for a power upgrade he could just throw a stronger spring (depending on the current gearbox) or even simpler he could buy a li-po battery cause it's like an instant power and ROF upgrade. but to start he's probably better off getting a tightbore barrel because accuracy and range are more important than power in this game.

from my limited experience with my lipo battery it actually does increase the power a bit, and idk if you misunderstood me but i said ROF not FPS, but you probably meant for the FPS note to go along with the power note. just making sure.

and as for those boots you posted zack they look shiny so if you do end up getting them you should dirty them up a bit or they might end up being a little beacon.

When most people say power they mean FPS. When they say speed they usually mean rate of fire. Sorry for the mix up.

i understand, you probably get a lot of that kind of talk, but when i said power i was talking about joules not fps and when i said rate of fire i really meant it. my piece of shit armalite replica came with a 7.2v 1500mah battery and when i swapped it with the 11.1v 1000mah lipo the ROF went up by like 250%. and i also noticed an increase of range, which implied to me more muzzle energy and thus more power, although again, this was with a cheap gun, so i probably wouldn't see the same increase in power with a weapon of higher quality.

well joules is energy. Energy is a mass traveling at a certain speed. If you dont change the mass and you dont change the speed you dont change the energy or "power". Since the BB mass was the same and the gun was the same the only variable is the speed. Europeans do not recognize "feet per second" they view it as joules. IE 1.38 Joules is 375 fps with a .2 gram BB You probably saw your gun cycle much cleaner and put a good round down range, but increasing battery voltage on a gun will typically not alter the feet per second on a gun.

When upgrading a gun you can go two ways. To upgrade the rate of fire you will primarily be working on the lower half of the gear box. Looking at battery, wiring, motor, bearings, shims, gears etc.

When working toward higher FPS you will be looking mostly at the upper half of the gear box: Spring, Piston, piston head, cylinder, cylinder head, air nozzle etc.

Now thats not to say that when building a gun with an objective in mind that you ignore the other half. You should be looking to reinforce the other half. So if you want your AEG to shoot 500 fps you should jack up the upper half but then add a lipo, motor, torque up gears, bushings, shims, etc to better your reaction time and increase the durability of your gun under the increased pressure. None of those adds will increase your FPS, but it will make your gun more reliable and cycle cleaner.

So when you look to do significant upgrades to a gun doing only one thing will not make your gun better over the long run. Typically it will make your gun break down. So if your looking to do big time upgrades expect the airsmith to want to over haul your whole gun (example see my SAW).

Also let them pick the parts since they will know better as to what parts fir well together. Just because they all say they are for the same version gearbox does not mean they fit together perfectly.

Thats nothing LOL. It came with a lot of the parts. The MOSFET is the biggest add on the saw. Right now the biggest overhaul of the winter is my scar. Basically it just got gutted and is being rebuilt. High torque motor, high torque gears, steel bushings, new piston, piston head, cylinder, cylinder head, spring, spring guide, hop up unit and tight bore barrel. Basically the only thing that will be from the original gun will be the external shell, gearbox shell, wiring, and the trigger.

I'm still trying to pimp my AR15 as well.

Not to be off topic but hasnt this topic been discussed about 18 times already? There has already been one in depth regarding tightbores that covered just about everything from brand to length and even discussed the TK twist barrel. As for the spring I set many examples to the fact that you arent really gonna know where your gun is when you get it. Use it stock for a while before you start tinkering with a spring upgrade. A heavy spring like an M140 will also require you to upgrade a number of other parts (see my examples above). There is also the fact that an M140 in most guns will put you over field limits and you wont be allowed to use it at a lot of games. Some fields will say its OK to go over 400 as long as its semi auto only, but you wont be allowed to engage anyone at under 100 feet. A place like Ghost Town will not let you in at all since a lot of the facility is close quarters. In many cases the newer guns from China have to be downgraded.

Just get the gun. Bring it to a field, have them chrono it. Talk to an airsmith and see what they recommend while they can see how the gun is currently performing.

One more thing. Go to Devil's Light at Ghost Town. Once again. Go to a game. Seeing how its played will probably switch up your wish list quite a bit.
